DTF APPLICATION GUIDE
Heat Press Temperatures and Times
- Medium Pressure: 60 lbs
- Cotton: 290°F (143°C) - 10 seconds
- Polyester: 275°F (135°C) - 10 seconds
- 50/50 Cotton/Polyester: 290°F (143°C) - 10 seconds
- Tri-Blend: 275°F (135°C) - 10 seconds
- Pre-Press garment for 5-10 seconds. This will remove any moisture and smooth out the fabric, creating a better surface for the transfer to adhere to. If the garment feels slightly damp after the initial pre-press, you may need to press for a few more seconds.
⚠️ Always place a sheet of kraft paper over the transfer to protect it and do test pressings before starting production. Ensure your heat press applies uniform pressure over the entire transfer area.
For a matte finish to the transfer, press a second time with Kraft paper for 5 seconds. A second press also helps give the transfer a softer feel and ensures it is bonded to the fabric.
Cottons & Blends:
- Temperature & Time: 290°F for 10 seconds
- Additional Press: Peel hot and press for another 5 seconds at medium pressure for additional curing.
Polyesters:
- Temperature & Time: 275°F for 8-10 seconds
- Pressure: Medium to light pressure. Too much pressure can create a box or scorch the transfer.
- Note: Polyester settings may vary, but it’s best to use lower temp and pressure.
Finishing:
- Matte Finish: Use a Kraft/parchment cover sheet with a rougher texture.
- Shiny/Gloss Finish: Use a Teflon cover sheet.
- Silicone Pads: Specific silicone pads with texture can be used to prevent the gloss look and give the print a nice textured feel.
-
Additional Notes:
- Thicker fabrics generally require more heat.
- Polyester hats may require 245-250°F for 5-8 seconds.
